Birthday Dinner in Pittsburgh 19 Top in 2024

Ritual House is located inside the Union Trust building at 524 William Penn Place. To start, we tried the fried burrata which was plated on a creamy tomato sauce and drizzled with basil oil and a balsamic glaze. The fry on the burrata was light and crispy, and the sauces were balanced and well-seasoned. Enter the code you received via email to sign in, or sign in using a password. Ritual House, a restaurant offering elevated American cuisine, international eats and craft cocktails, is opening Downtown in the historic Union Trust Building, with some seasoned veterans at the helm.

The restaurant, which originally announced plans to open in 2021, has been created by restaurant vets Herky and Lisa Pollock (who opened Coast & Main in Monroeville), and Michelle and chef Ricky Kirsop. The endeavor is the couples’ “love letter to Pittsburgh” Ricky Kirsop said in a statement. A few of the dishes might be familiar to diners as they are from Coast & Main Seafood & Chophouse in Monroeville, which the couples also own. There are plans for a second location of Coast & Main coming to East Liberty.

In 2014, The Davis Companies, a Boston developer with local roots, bought the Union Trust Building and invested $100 million in its restoration. The Pittsburgh native learned simple, honest cooking from his grandma, who ran a catering business out of a fire hall in Reserve. Ritual House will debut a new menu of seasonal eats in the next month featuring more vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options that showcase Ed’s creativity. Grilled lamb chops will be served with rosemary thyme honey and mint chimichurri and a double cut pork chop topped with cherry bacon relish. The Chilean sea bass has smoky bacon miso, stir fry vegetables and pickled cucumber.

Either way, you’ll make cherished memories and learn valuable skills that will help you celebrate birthdays for years to come. A family-owned Italian deli, restaurant and café, DiAnoia’s Eatery is well-known for its delicious foods and beautiful desserts. Its casual yet friendly neighborhood atmosphere makes this a great place to host a low-key birthday dinner in Pittsburgh. Called “shareables” on the menu, the brûléed oranges have goat cheese and local microgreens. The fried green tomatoes are topped with green goddess dressing and pickled onion, and the tuna poke features sashimi-grade tuna and poke sauce. Overall, although the proteins in our entrees were cooked exceptionally well, the flavors here missed the mark for us- the recurring sweetness was something that stuck with us well after leaving. Whether or not this was something we misunderstood from the menu descriptions or that we just did not craft a proper meal outright remains to be seen, but this one ended up being not quite what we expected.

The “Pittsburgh shines again” cocktail has Tito’s vodka, muddled grapes, fresh basil, fresh lemon and ginger ale. The “main ritual” features Jim Beam bourbon, fresh lemon and northwest berry syrup. Herky Pollock said it took about 18 months to prepare the space — supply chain issues caused delays. The location is prime because it’s close to several hotels, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and not far from sports venues and the Cultural District. It also complements many other quality dining options in the area, he said, adding with some employees returning to the office they will have another option to grab lunch, dinner or a drink. Captivating art, devilish details, and luxurious comfort are just the start of the experience.

Maybe we just ordered the wrong menu items for our palate, but after finishing our entrees, we were left with a such sugar rush that we couldn't have possibly contemplated getting dessert. That was a shame because we absolutely love dessert, and the pastry chef at Ritual House is a bit of a celebrity after winning a competition on Food Network. This one was flavored with miso and orange in a poke broth, with spinach, daikon, and carrots. The fish was cooked to juicy perfection, we just thought that the broth was also intensely sweet and, in our opinion, it overpowered the fish. We also weren't expecting the spinach, daikon, and carrots to be raw and served as a sort of salad in the broth. From the food and drinks to the decor, Herky believes Ritual House offers a high-end experience minus the stuffiness you’d expect from an upscale establishment.

For what we thought would be a spirit-forward drink, it was a little surprising that it was served over small ice cubes, and it was a little sweeter than we expected. We also tried the signature Ritual Margarita, with tequila, carrot juice, Cointreau, lime, agave, and a hibiscus salt rim. The carrot flavor was interesting but overall, this drink was simply way too sweet for our palates. We thought the menu descriptions of the food and drinks didn't align with what we thought we were ordering, namely in terms of the flavors and presentation. Overall, the proteins in the dishes we ordered were cooked well, but we just thought the flavors had a recurring theme of being far too sweet.

The cacio e pepe is a go-to here for a good reason, crafted with fresh house-made pasta, pecorino Romano and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses paired with cracked black pepper. If you’re looking for date ideas in Pittsburgh, it’s hard to find a more fun, interactive and romantic restaurant than The Melting Pot. This refined chain restaurant has unbeatable cheese and chocolate fondue, so it’s no wonder they’re so popular for a birthday dinner in Pittsburgh. Keep things light with a creamy lobster bisque or bleu cheese wedge salad, or go all-out and enjoy the rack of lamb served with crispy layered potatoes, green beans and a sherry reduction (it’s a birthday dinner, after all!). This restaurant sets the perfect mood for a classy yet fun birthday dinner in Pittsburgh, with crystal chandeliers, funky monkey wallpaper and plush upholstered seating fit for a birthday king or queen. Opened in 2023, Ritual House is an upscale modern restaurant located within the Union Trust Building in downtown Pittsburg.

The meal's highlight was definitely the service, as our server was very attentive and gave many suggestions on what to order (we, admittedly, probably should've asked more questions about flavor here!). We had a long chat about the delicious-sounding dessert menu despite opting to miss it, and we found out that you can order desserts for takeout which is definitely on our list to try in the future. For entrees, we tried the Asian-inspired fried chicken with Szechuan syrup and Asian slaw.

With great menu specials, this hidden gem has been serving delicious steaks and seafood for over a decade, frequently hosting live music nights. New entrees include Asian-inspired fried chicken piled high on the plate atop a fresh Asian slaw and drizzled with Szechuan syrup. The sous vide beef short rib has a Burgundy wine demi-glace, pearl onions, carrots, and Parmesan grits. Lisa calls it a “sophisticated funhouse” that’s already a gathering spot for groups of women celebrating special events, conducting lunch meetings or having a happy hour drink. Ritual House will pop the cork on a champagne menu that will include flights and cocktails like Blushing Bellini with Stoli Peach, white peach puree, peach bitters, and topped with prosecco. At the full-service bar, hand crafted, hand shaken cocktails using all with fresh ingredients are served.
